Hi Reader! Happy Thanksgiving week to you and yours! I thought that things would settle down post vacation, but that didn't happen. Do you feel the same? When this email hits inboxes I'll be wrapping up a second day of break camp with some kiddos and I am already looking forward to the upcoming long weekend. I hope you get some time to rest and recharge over this Thanksgiving. I'm thankful for each an every one of you who are on my newsletter list and who send me kind responses to my emails when they go out. Speaking of emails. Thanksgiving seems like it came out of nowhere and my inbox is now being flooded with Black Friday deals and counting down the days to Christmas and New Years! I'm not ready!! Well, that might not be completely true. I'm ready to pull out the Christmas lights and ornaments and to turn our apartment into a little sparkling oasis, but maybe not ready for the shopping season. Did you know that this can be the most important time of year for small businesses, especially creative art businesses. For many, the holiday shopping season can make up 50% or more of their annual revenue from just those last couple months of the year. I'm not at the point where I am selling regularly, but one day soon I might be. As you start your holiday shopping, I encourage to shop small and local. There are so many amazing artists on Etsy and Instagram that you can find whatever you can imagine. I especially love local craft and art shows because you can find amazing and unique options. Two items I have purchased that I love this year were:
Homemade options are also always fun. Last year I made custom ornaments with mini watercolor paintings. This year I haven't quite decided what diy project I want to do. Good thing I have a couple weeks to figure it out! Instagram Highlights New on the BlogPhoto InspirationWhat I'm WatchingOne of the only highlights of airplane travel is in flight movies and having access to new movies before I can get them from the library. I was SO excited that the new Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was an option. I love the original Indiana Jones movies. (Indiana3645 was even my aim screenname - fellow millennials will understand.) I watch them regularly and they are a comfort movie for me. I thought Dial of Destiny was great and a huge improvement over Crystal Skull. It was everything that I wanted in an Indiana Jones movie: silliness, action, and returning characters that you know and love. What I'm ReadingI love me a mystery and thriller. Don't Believe It by Charlie Donlea is about a filmmaker who is creating a documentary about a woman sent to prison for a crime she may or may not have committed. It's a back and forth of did she or didn't she and jumps between timelines, conversations, and episodes from the made for tv documentary as it is made. There were multiple times where I thought I knew where the book was going and then I was surprised when we went in a different direction. That the best you can hope for for a mystery/ thriller in my opinion. It was my first time picking up a book by Donlea and I'm excited to see what else I might like. Did you miss a newsletter? Hi Reader! Have the days of the week started to blur yet or are you sick of sugar and just want a piece of broccoli? However or wherever you are spending this weird limbo period between Christmas and New Year's Day, I hope that you have found some time for a little relaxation either by yourself or with loved ones. I have spent a lot of time reading, watching movies, and trying to get outside and enjoy the start of the snowy season in Colorado. I'm also thrilled that the days are finally going...
Hi Reader! What a few weeks it has been since my last newsletter. Fall is normally a slower season, but it has felt more chaotic than usual. I've officially committed to buy a new car... still waiting for it to arrive before it's official official. I got through my last on-site programming at the museum and am looking forward to a couple quiet weeks at the end of the month before summer camp registration opens in January... yup you heard me right, summer camp. Oh and the covid finally got me....
Hi Reader! Would you consider yourself a risk taker? My initial response to that question was to chuckle and say (to myself), "definitely not, I am a proud card carrying overthinker 🙋 , thank you very much." Then I decided to sit with that idea a little bit. I certainly have not changed my mind, but I would say I am more of a calculated risk taker. I like to think over decisions, admittedly for longer than ususally necessary, but I am comfortable with change and with trying new things. I...
