We made it to August!

Hi Reader!

Happy August! I can't believe we have made it. As this newsletter is hitting your inbox I'm in the midst of the last 48 hours of summer camp intensity. Summer camp is one of those endeavors that both flies by and crawls at the same time. It's an high intensity time of year with the most potential for things not going according to plan, but it is always an adventure. Even on the hardest days it is fun when you get to see kids go home with homemade candles, the pyrite they panned for themselves, and to see kids drag their parents around trying to collect the phone numbers for their new friends at the end of the week. During camp, I treasure the weekends and just try to enjoy the quiet of sitting at home with a cup of tea and a book and recharge for the next week.

Needless to say, I'm looking forward to the upcoming quiet when camp officially ends and we switch gears to plan for the upcoming school year, which in Colorado starts in a little over two weeks! Seasonality is really important to my job and, I'm learning, to my creative practice. While I have had my summer vibes project to look forward to when I am at home in the evenings and the weekends, it certainly has felt like a lot and I found myself not feeling my best the last couple weeks as I tried to stay on top of all the things going on. I'm finally feeling better as I sit here typing, but it's a good reminder that we are not machines and doing something like taking a nap can be just as important as trying to put the finishing touches on that blog post. I wasn't quite as productive during the course of summer camp as I was expecting, but I think I got more done with my summer vibes plan than if I had just waited to "see what would happen." And lucky for me, while camp may be over, we are still in the middle of summer, and I'm hoping to soak up all of the sun I can before fall shows up.

How is your summer going so far?

What I'm Reading

The second installment of V.E. Schwab's Villians Duology Vengeful did not disappoint. My favorite part of the book was how Schwab bounced between the different characters to give you different perspectives. She also bounced back and forth with the timeline so the book actually starts years in the past and with each chapter, you get closer to the present and the book's epic climax. My only complaint is that the the series is only a duology and I'm not going to learn any more about the characters, especially the moody Victor.

What I'm Listening To

I cannot say that I am on the Barbenhiemer bandwagon yet since I have not seen either of the movies, but I really do love movies and pop culture generally and it has been really interesting to see the different takes on the phenomena of Barbie and Oppenheimer. The movies have even overtaken the Taylor Swift Eras tour mania at least for the moment. I am currently enjoying the Barbie soundtrack as I am typing. My favorite song by far is Dua Lipa's "Dance the Night." Also, even if you have not seen the movie, I have found the rabbit hole of Ryan Gosling as Ken reels to be highly entertaining. 😉

Hi Reader! Have the days of the week started to blur yet or are you sick of sugar and just want a piece of broccoli? However or wherever you are spending this weird limbo period between Christmas and New Year's Day, I hope that you have found some time for a little relaxation either by yourself or with loved ones. I have spent a lot of time reading, watching movies, and trying to get outside and enjoy the start of the snowy season in Colorado. I'm also thrilled that the days are finally going...

Hi Reader! What a few weeks it has been since my last newsletter. Fall is normally a slower season, but it has felt more chaotic than usual. I've officially committed to buy a new car... still waiting for it to arrive before it's official official. I got through my last on-site programming at the museum and am looking forward to a couple quiet weeks at the end of the month before summer camp registration opens in January... yup you heard me right, summer camp. Oh and the covid finally got me....
